Sky Festival

The Client

Over 31 channels from the Sky Network were involved in creating interactive and interesting event areas around Manchester’s most famous landmarks over a 3-day period in the “Largest Entertainment Event of its kind ever to be staged in the UK”. As it was a major promotional exercise for Sky, each site had to be extensively branded along the strict brand guidelines, keeping in line with the theme of each zone.

The Brief

Assigning one of our experienced Project Managers to organise all aspects of our involvement from the outset was the key link in the chain to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Our brief was to produce 150 square metres of high quality interior and exterior print direct onto various substrates. Our installation teams were required on-site over a 2-day period to fit vinyls and rigid board to the various staging areas.

What we did

The “Sky” brand is very highly regarded and well known so it was imperative that all graphics matched to the exact pantone colours and brand requirements. We carried out a number of calibration tests to ensure pantone match prior to printing. All of the graphics were printed on our newly acquired Vutek PressVu UV 320/400 Direct-to-Substrate and Roll-to-roll machine. This ensured that the colours were consistent across all substrates including foamex, correx, vinyl, PVC and mesh. Our impressive range of the latest digital printers means that we are the only company in the West Midlands with this size and speed capability. The Vutek machine prints up to 93 sq metres per hour at its fastest setting, allowing us to turnaround several of these jobs in a week. There is also no need for lamination, which saves time, as the UV cured inks dry instantly.

Results

All graphics were produced and fitted on-site by our installation teams over a period of 2 days. Inevitably, once the build had started, there were last-minute extras that needed to be printed and installed same-day. With the high speed of the Vutek we were able to print these extras in a morning and have them on–site by lunchtime, while maintaining the same high level of print quality. Given the fact that the Vutek has such excellent calibration, the colours on each substrate were an exact match to the ones we printed days earlier. The entire event was a success.
